Aluminium and Silica Relationships in Growth Failure Areas

چکیده
In 1962 an investigation was conducted to measure the reduction in hydrogen ion concentration of a weak acid (0.02N H,SO,) after it had been in contact with different soils. The acid-soil mixture was shaken, filtered and an aliquot titrated against 0.02N NaOH to neutrality. Of some 2,000 soils treated in this way, four were characterised by the formation of a clear gelatinous precipitate (considered to be some con~pound of Al) when the solutions were rendered alkaline. Subsequently they were found to belong to the Inanda soil series, and all were associated with growth failure areas. With the recent extension of cane cultivation into the Natal midlands, the likelihood of cane being grown on soils of the Clovelly series has increased. The fact that these soils are also high in A1 (Skeen and Sumner 1965) increases the urgency of an investigation into the relationship between soil soluble A1 and cane growth.

Experimental Study of Sable Crack Growth in Thin Aluminium Sheet
Recent failure information from research teams in NASA Langley and others has shown that CTOA based fracture models calibrated on large C(T) and M(T) specimens can be transferred successfully to cracked aircraft fuselage structures for the assessment of their residual strength. A major difficulty that could limit the more extensive use of this failure parameter is its experimental measurement e...
متن کاملInfluence of Notch Depth-to-Width Ratios on J-Integral and Critical Failure Load of Single-Edge Notched Tensile Aluminium 8011 Alloy Specimens
In this paper, the influence of notch depth-to-width ratios on J-integral and critical load of Aluminium 8011 alloy specimens with U-notch under Mode I loading are studied. Using experiments, for a set of specimens having different notch depth–to–width ratios, J-integral was found and the same was verified using analytical methods. Further, using the results obtained from the experiments, failu...

Composites are being used extensively in several engineering applications. However, the efficiency of the joints used in joining composites and metals can be improved. To move towards a sustainable and environment friendly future, natural fibre composite material was used. Towards the above objective, research work was carried out for the assembly between a composite and aluminium. Three differ...

Catalyst supports with novel chemical and physical properties are needed for producing new families of catalytic materials. The goals of this work were to demonstrate the preparation of aluminium nitride type materials and evaluate their properties as catalyst supports. To obtain aluminium nitride in high-surface-area form suitable for catalyst applications, porous silica and alumina supports w...
متن کاملTHE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN ALUMINIUM TOXICITY AND IRON METABOLISM IN RATS
The relationship between aluminium toxicity and iron metabolism was studied. Male rats were exposed to aluminium by daily intraperitoneal injection of 40pmolelkg body weight. After 45 days, aluminium intoxified rats had a significant loweredserum ferritin (55%), iron (42%), TIBC (25%) and hemoglobin(31%). At thesame time the serum ceruloplasmin level was elevated by 60%. This result shows t...
